i spend so much of my time
and mental energy
avoiding doing anything expected
anything cliché
anything too human-made
which is so incredibly silly
because i, myself, am human-made
i spend so much of my time
and mental energy
avoiding doing anything expected
anything cliché
anything too human-made
which is so incredibly silly
because i, myself, am human-made
at least
i’ve committed to the bit
for as long as i have
working memory
at least
i come from a long line
of folks who have
absolutely committed to the bit
even before that was a common phrase
at least
i have so much fun
committing to the bit
because joy is
one of the things
i want most out of life
at least
others have acknowledged
and admired
my ability to commit to the bit
i don’t know what i’d do
if it were
otherwise…
working on old songs
that kip and i wrote
quite literally ten years ago
wow
wow
wow
woa
who woulda thought
this niche song
written for a show
that wasn’t even a musical
and was barely used in the production itself
[except as a scene-change song
and a mini-inside joke]
would have life
in an original music-making
music-sharing
infinite
audio
app
kip would create
a decade later
[the memories!]
sometimes
i’ll do things
with no one around
that are so dramatic
i feel
i obviously
did them for an audience
but am i
an audience of one
or do i really want to influence
the animals here
that i’m that
ridiculous
?
[either of these could be
the for real
truth]
i’ve been tracking my sneezes
since the start of the year
it’s a very very very silly
new year’s resolution
but damn am i invested
interestingly
i usually sneeze at least once
every day
but some things can up the count
like being sick [only one day impacted]
or adding abundant amounts of jerk seasoning
to my dinner of rice
[only one extra sneeze added]
otherwise, it seems to be
randomness
some days two sneezes instead of one
some days zero sneezes at all
and one bizarre seven-sneeze day
out of nowhere
but this is only after
28 days of data collection
let’s check back after
at least a full
month…
every time
we see a thirteen
in the date, we have to say:
“gasp! happy manniversary!”
even if it’s not a friday
even if it’s not in may
because every thirteenth
is our favorite day
[even when they don’t go so well,
or we don’t really celebrate
our anniversary
that day]
and we need a little more
joy
in our lives these days
[so here’s to
eight years
and eight months
of marriage!]
the utter delight
in my voice, eyes, and mind
as i call to an empty room
“a ghost!!!”
after the bag of dog food goes unexpectedly
splat
to the ground
(although i know
gravity had some hold
on its fall)
sudden sillies
pop as classical radio
chatting with the spouse
singing at the spouse
dancing at the spouse
after writing/editing/posting so many things
dealing with depression
how can my goofiness
still show itself
this fiercely?
