waiting
[im]patiently for the bagels to arrive
i’m hungry
but more than that
i’m worried i cannot start my day
until i’ve had my sacred little
bagel
cream cheese
coffee
and stardew valley
time of day
waiting
[im]patiently for the bagels to arrive
i’m hungry
but more than that
i’m worried i cannot start my day
until i’ve had my sacred little
bagel
cream cheese
coffee
and stardew valley
time of day
wearing black
to mourn a version of america
that has never
existed
write
and write
and write and write and write
until you’ve exorcised all the demons
inside your own mind
peacocks strut their stuff
opening a fan of flamboyance for
everyone’s eyes
(i often wonder if they know how fabulous they are, and if
the male peacocks actually open their tails for the purpose of finding
a mate, or if it’s a little bit egoistic and showing off for the purposes of showing off
for showing off’s sake)
it’s always
so interesting
when the poems i start to write
are not
the poems that end up
written
too tired
to write
too tired
to move
too tired
to sleep
but maybe
just maybe
just tired enough
to dream
at least we have a bit of
morning pages time this morning
before the utter chaos and mild terror
of in-laws
and in-law-puppies
come barreling down the stairs
drink water
stay hydrated
don’t forget
don’t dehydrate
advice
from one probably-adhd, nonbinary, depressed and anxious millennial queer
to another
trying
and trying
and feeling like i’m failing
but maybe i’m falling
up
sounds
are waves
saying hi to your eardrums
and crashing into your brain
with melody
with emotion
with purpose
there’s a reason music brings folks together just just just right
