it’s always fascinating how
in the weeds
humans can be
when looking at things
minusculely
minutely

forgetting the grand meaning of the universe
[which is probably meaningless]
so have a great time and help others out
[not necessarily in that order]
is what i’ve established as my base reasoning for existing
and my personal philosophy centers mostly on kindness
and i know i have a ton of privilege
to have that as my core reason for being
and to have had the time to spend
really mulling over the universe and all it means
but i figure i might as well use my privilege
to bring kindness to others
philosophically
as well as personally
so that this portion of the world
can get just a little bit more
kind
than it was before me

that’s what i’m leaving when i’m gone:
a long long string of
kindnesses

as much as i joke
that i hate people

i really do
do a lot of things
to help out
people

and care
so hard
about people

and my life’s purpose seems to be
helping people
healing people
slowly
one by one
conversation by conversation
just making people feel
listened-to
and heard

i hate when other people don’t do what i do
don’t really truly listen

but then, if they all did
i’d have no purpose in this world
would i?

~~~
[but there are too many people
in this world
to heal
and too much to heal
in one conversation
why can’t people just
be
kind?]
~~~

the older i get
the less i look for
fame
and my name
in lights
and other goals i had myself convinced
i needed to make my time
here on this planet
count

those were always a means to an end

the end being healing

the end being feeling listened to

and i can do that better one on one
than with a large fan-base
anyway

so kindness is what i look for
and what i hope to leave
on this planet

i really do intend to leave it
better than i found it

and if that means taking each person i meet
and making them feel
important to me

then that’s good because
they are.

what happens when the apocalypse happens
in fits and starts
and tiny bit by tiny bit?

if the future generations survive, will they look back on us
with wonder at how we made it this far?

if the future generations thrive, will they look back on us
and laugh at how foolish we were to assume
that we weren’t at the start of the middle
of the end times that they
escaped?

only hindsight is 20/20
we can only concern ourselves with the here and now
and try to institute the lessons from our own pasts
our paths to here we can re-tread, our paths forward
have not yet been paved
but i can’t stop myself from thinking myself far into the future
with wonderment
with fear
with imagination
with questions
because i’m concerned with the future of our planet
and how we can leave
here
better than we found it

[can we
leave it better than we found it???]
