what a nightmare
of a night
what with screaming cats
and whining puppies
and keeping us up all night
[especially when we were both so excited
to go to sleep so early
and sleep in just a bit]
but
but
but
however
i’d rather have these animals
and have them interrupt our sleeps
with their hassles
than not have them at all
and that’s the truth

[damn, love is crazy]

January 2, 2023

happy birthday to this
scruffy
little
bundle of
joy
menacing
hassles
shedding
playfulness
whining
dozens of different barks
slightly uneven eyes
thumping tail
reverse mustache
ear fluff
too much intelligence for her own good
scratching and digging
and so much destruction
silliness
and sleepy belly time
love
healing
harmonizing
floopy ears
and genetically terrible knees

[and at only one year old
that’s just the tip of the
puppy iceberg]

Happy Birthday, Computer!!!

October 25, 2022

ok
let’s see
if i like this new compy
if this keyboard won’t be as hassle-y
if i can get on board creativity
and be
the person
i’ve always wanted to be

~~~
yes
you guessed it
new computer
new keyboard
less doubling of letters
less loss of vowels
less struggle to write
in a way
that others would be able
to see
and figure out
and comprehend
and all that jazz
(oh no
have i relied on that
hassle
to not feel
personally
imperfect???)
~~~

but with a new piece
of technology
comes the premise
of a promise
to keep it up to date
and cleaner
and less crumb-y
and less angry
and i (hopefully)
will fulfill this
better
than in the
(very recent)
past

we’ll see
we’ll see

the stress
and hassle
of planning for a family visit
is made all the more complex
in this time of COVID.

we [the family] are all vaccinated,
but half of us work
(or have worked)
in healthcare
so we know,
we know.

so is it worth
the 8+ hour drive
with dog?
is it worth traveling
(however carefully)
through some places with
less than stellar rates?
is it worth
even going
if we have a cold?
(every illness now is
a moment of pause
even if we know it isn’t
a coronavirus)

and with the family
not all that enthused anyway
should we again,
like last year
say next year?
[next year]
[next year]
