belly aches
and
too much fun
and
paying for it all the next day
children
February 17, 2024
maybe
one upon a time
i was happy
i was healed
i was a child without trauma
but now
i gotta
know it
own it
be it
and maybe work towards
getting back to the child we all
once were
[but why
can i not
think of children
without thinking of
every
single
child
killed by israel]
[i really can’t think of anything anymore
without finding a parallel
to the tragedy
in Palestine]
November 1, 2023
sad children
receiving no candy
sad children
being bombed in Gaza
sad children
deserve nicer things
all children
deserve nicer
things
why do adults
ruin
everything
[do they not remember
the children they
once were?]
October 3, 2021
so much
moving/packing/driving/stress
too tired to write
a real poem
so instead
i’ll convey to you
the most beautiful thing i heard today
directly after pulling in to our new home’s driveway
the final trip of the day
from across the street
at a new neighbor’s 6th birthday party:
child (somewhere between 8 and 10)
singing (while sprinting down a long driveway):
I BELIEVE I CAN FLY!!! I BE-
(the sound “oof” is heard)
(pause)
child (yelling reassuringly): I’M FINE!
(pause)
(pause)
(pause)
child (running back up the driveway toward the party)
(not quite as loud or exuberant as previously):
I believe I can fly!
June 12, 2021 (part 2)
travels usually take
hours upon hours upon hours
(our go-to vacation spots/chill with family spots
have historically taken 8-ish hours.)
(tack onto that traffic/stops with dog/
my tiny bladder/
mostly traveling in seasons bombarded with snow;
our bodies are prepared for travel
to be the only event in a day.)
so when a “vacation trip” takes four/four and a half hours
(five-fifteen with stops/the traffic that inevitably erupts around nyc)
there is an excess of energy when we arrive at our destination.
but the question for tonight was:
“is that enough to meet one young child and two toddlers?”
and the answer was,
unequivocally
“yes!”
[although the dog with bows through her fur
may profess otherwise]
